Betty Alice James

Betty Alice Rowland James, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Pontotoc Health Services. She was born September 9, 1935 to William Durell Rowland and J.C. Maffett Rowland. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1954 and served as the Pontotoc County Justice Court Clerk for twenty years. She enjoyed flower gardening, laughing and making others laugh and spending time with her family and friends.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home with Bro. Melvin Crawley and Bro. Tommy Inmon officiating; burial will follow in the Immanuel Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, David Leo James of Pontotoc, MS; a sister-in-law, Vivian Rowland of Marshall, TX; one brother-in-law, H.J. James of Pontotoc, MS; five nieces, Emily Martin of Batesville, MS, Anita Johnson (Joe) of Marietta, GA, Marquita Turner (Paul) of Pontotoc, MS, Beth Coggins (Tommy)of Nettleton, MS and Paula Wiles of Destin, FL; two nephews, Matt James (Becca) of Oxford, MS and Paul James (Amye)of Pontotoc, MS; several great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Dewey Rowland and James “Jimmy” Rowland; a nephew-in-law, Glynn Martin.

Pallbearers will be Brady Maffett, Cory Maffett, Hoppy Maffett, Jim Gunter, Shannon Gunter, Wesley Gunter, Maffett Pound, Garrett Russell and Kelly Russell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday and from 12 to 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
