Betty Waycaster, age 88, passed away on May 10, 2018 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born March 6, 1930, to the late Stacy Elmo Gabbert and Myrl Odell Poyner Gabbert of Bruce. She was employed by the ASCS office in Pontotoc for 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pontotoc for many years, but had joined Algoma Baptist Church after she was unable to drive. She served as a volunteer at the First Baptist Church office in Pontotoc, for several years.
She was a loving mother and wife and a faithful member to her church. She loved to travel and was an avid reader.
Services will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Hester and Rev. Don Smith officiating; a private graveside service will follow at Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Larry W. Simmons of Madison, MS; a step-son, Jimmy Simmons of Houlka, MS; one sister, Yvonne Coombs (Butch) of Blue Mountain, MS; a brother, Dr. Elmo P. Gabbert (Beverly) of Meadville, MS; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Travis J. Simmons and Herman Hansel “Hank” Waycaster.
Pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews: Dickson Simmons, John Christopher Simmons, Billy Neal Simmons, Chris Coombs, Carson Coombs and Bubba Gabbert.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
