Brenda Montgomery Barton, a devoted wife, loving Mother, grandmother and great grandmother entered eternal rest on Sunday evening, June 15, 2025 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, after an extended illness, at the age of 80. Born on March 17,1945 in Pontotoc County to Boyd H. and Earlene Ross Montgomery, she grew up in the Hurricane Community. She attended Hurricane High School and graduated in the class of 1963, where she received the honor of Class Valedictorian. Brenda loved playing basketball where she scored a game high of 53 points in one game against Pontotoc High School Warriors. Upon graduation she went to work as a secretary for several different businesses. Deans Mfg., Futorian, Pontotoc Votech Center and her most recent occupation was customer service at Pontotoc Electric Power Association, where she worked 39 years until retiring in 2015.
Brenda was married to Charles Barton, the love of her life on September 2,1977 and they made their home in the Nixon Community in Pontotoc. Together they raised two daughters Cathy Duncan and Pam Barton, creating many cherished memories as a family. They would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this September. Brenda loved the Lord and was an active, faithful member of The Anchor Baptist Church where she also served as the church pianist for years .
Her hobbies included playing the piano, working in her yard, attending sporting events of children, grands and great grands, never missing a game (their biggest fan), taking family vacations, making trips with special girl first cousins and going to church.
Brenda loved her family, both immediate and extended. She was full of love, compassion and kindness, even having lots of charm and witt, always up for some fun. Family was everything to her and she showed that daily. She especially loved those great grands, that stole her heart.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 47 years Charles, two daughter's Cathy Barton (Lebron) and Pam Barnes (Kim), six grandchildren; Jeremy (Kelli) Kacie White, Jade Barton, Hannah Brasher (Justin), Seth Barnes (Carolyn) and Charity Craft (Jordon); eleven great grandchildren, Easton, Eden, Emmi White, Paxton, Blakelyn Brasher, Jaedyn Oats, Evie Barton, Lydia, Clayton, Opal Craft, Phoebe Barnes. One brother, Buddy Montgomery (Betty) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Boyd and Earlene Montgomery, paternal grandparents Tom and Valeria Montgomery and maternal grandparents Aurthur and Mae Ross. Brenda comes from a long line of love and leaves a legacy that “Family is Everything”
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Jeremy and Easton White, Jordon Craft, Seth Barnes, Paxton Brasher and special nephews Ross and Eli Montgomery and Luke Willamson.
Honorary pallbearers are Lebron Barton, Kim Barnes, Scott Williamson, Mitch Montgomery and Clayton Craft.
Browning Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements with visitation on Wednesday night from 5 until 9 pm and Thursday from 12 noon until 2:00 pm with the funeral to follow at 2:00 pm at The Anchor Baptist Church in Pontotoc, with Brother Clyde Pound officiating.
Donations or contributions can be made to the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo in her honor.
