America Elizabeth Brown Bowen, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Sunnington Senior Care in Murfreesboro, TN. She was born February 14, 1917 in Pontotoc, MS to James Willis Brown and Agnes Carrie Brown. She married to John H. Bowen. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and Blue Mountain College and taught high school English and business. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pontotoc and was attending the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. She enjoyed reading, gardening, spending time with her family, the Pontotoc County Jail Ministry and sharing the Christian message with others.

Services will be at 2 PM Sunday, December 30, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Pontotoc with Rev. Ken Hester officiating with burial to follow in the Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter: Lucy Bowen Langworthy (Warren) of Murfreesboro, TN; a son: John Michael Bowen of Ft. Worth, TX; three grandchildren: Megan Langworthy Martin, Lara Langworthy and John Ross Langworthy and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four sisters: Mary Stanford Ball, Sue Stanford Griffin, Louise Brown Wardlaw and Roberta Brown Mathis; and three brothers: Walter Stanford, Robert Brown and Willis Brown.

Pallbearers will be: Jim Long, Gerald Waldrop, Bill Wardlaw, Mark Wardlaw, Brad Wardlaw and David Helms.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 31 Washington Street, Pontotoc, MS 38863.
