

Jackie Wilson Ezell, age 80, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at NMMC in Tupelo. He was born June 5, 1944, and was reared by Elbie and Mabel Gordon Ezell. Jack graduated from Union High School in 1961. He later obtained a Bachelor of Music at Delta State University in 1965 and went on to earn a Master of Education Administration from The University of Mississippi in 1974. He taught at Hurricane High School, was a teacher and administrator at North Pontotoc Attendance Center, and taught at the Pontotoc Ridge Career & Technology Center until his retirement from the school system in 1991. Jack had a profound impact on countless lives during his teaching career. After retirement, he opened and operated a computer and business supply store in Oxford, Mississippi, for several years. Jack was a dedicated Christian and faithfully attended Anchor Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member throughout his adult life. He was also a member of the Pontotoc County Retired Educators Association. Jack was a voracious reader, and enjoyed music, computers, and spending time with his family and friends. He was instrumental in restoring the Hurricane Community Center and establishing the Veterans Monument there. He also served on the Community Center Board and helped with the upkeep of the building and grounds.
Jack married the love of his life, June Dorrough Ezell, on August 5, 1967, and remained a faithful and devoted husband until his death a few short hours before hers on February 2, 2025.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, February 7, 2025, at Sand Springs Cemetery, with Rev. Clyde Pound and Rev. Michael Wilbanks officiating. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the Ezell family with the arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Brian Ezell (Kim), Michelle Poe (Bob), and Jayme Sullivant (Bryan); two sisters, Nancy Leach (William) and Martha Gunter (Mike), and a brother-in-law, John Wooldridge; five grandchildren, Kolton Poe (Hillary), Austin Haynie, Jackson Warren (Gracen), Jaden Ezell and Kagen Ezell; and two great-grandchildren, Knox Poe and Desi Poe. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a third great-grandchild, Kipton Jack Warren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marilyn Banks, Judy Wooldridge and Beverly Williams; and a brother, Sidney Vance.
Pallbearers will be Bob Poe, Bryan Sullivant, Kolton Poe, Jackson Warren, Jaden Ezell, Kagen Ezell, and Knox Poe.
