He was born August 18, 1947, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, to James Owen and Mary Lloyd Meek Owen, both of whom preceded him in death.
He served his country in the United States Navy and went on to build a long career with Bell South/AT&T, from which he retired. In his later years, he resided at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, a reflection of the pride his community took in his military service. He was a faithful member of West Heights Baptist Church in Pontotoc, Mississippi.
He was a man who knew how to enjoy life. Whether he was on the golf course or in front of the TV pulling for the Ole Miss Rebels, he brought that same enthusiasm to everything he loved.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Owen.
He is survived by his son, Edwin Owen, and Edwin's wife, Jennifer Clemons Owen; his granddaughter, Taylor Owen; and his great-granddaughter, Riley Reiners. He is also survived by the mother of his son, Irene Roye Brand, with whom he maintained a warm and valued friendship. Also surviving him are his stepdaughters, Jennifer Hinson (Patrick) and Courtney Szkopinski (Bart), along with a large and loving extended family. His step grandchildren include Samantha Plunk, Joseph Morrison, Bailey Hinson, Lynley Hinson, Paul Szkopinski, and Logan Szkopinski. His step-great-grandchildren include Madalyn Huffman (Hunter), with their sons Greyson Huffman and Owen Lane Huffman.
A man who served his country, loved his family, and never missed a chance to root for the Rebels, he will be deeply missed.
