Joan Burk

Bobby Joan Poe Burk, age 81, passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. She was born February 6, 1935 to Dale Poe and Loraine Kidd Poe. She was a member of Turnpike Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a retired seamstress and did alterations at Michael’s Department Store. She enjoyed painting, teaching Sunday school, flower gardening and hosting in home Bible study.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday, October 28, 2016 at Turnpike Baptist Church, with Rev. Pete Gregory officiating, burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Lavoy Burk of Pontotoc, MS, one daughter, Felicia Johnson of Pontotoc, MS, two sons, Mitchell Burk of Central City, KY and David Burk of Pontotoc, MS, one brother, Charlie Poe of Pontotoc, MS and two grandchildren, Chase Brobyn and Nicholas Burk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Donna Phillips, a son, Steve Burk, two sisters, Mildred Morning and Kitty Warren, and two brothers, Edwin Poe and Riley Poe.

Pallbearers will be, Dean Johnson, Mitchell Burk, Robbie Self, Frank Poe, Corey Harrison and Joey Self.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday and from 10 to 11 am Friday. All the visitation will be at Turnpike Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Turnpike Baptist Church, 695 Cane Creek Road North, Pontotoc, MS 38863.
