June Ezell

Ouida June Ezell, age 84, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Pontotoc Health and Rehab in Pontotoc. She was born December 17, 1940, to Quitman and Corrine Ross Dorrough. June graduated from Hurricane High School in 1958 and later obtained a Bachelor of Education at Blue Mountain College in 1961. She taught school at Thaxton, Hurricane, and North Pontotoc Attendance Center before retiring in 1991, leaving a lasting impact on countless students during her career. June was a dedicated Christian, often serving as a pianist or organist, and attended Anchor Baptist Church. She was loyal and generous to those she loved and cherished as Mama June by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. June’s hobbies included gardening, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Pontotoc County Retired Educators Association. June had a deep love and appreciation for veterans and honored their service and sacrifice by establishing the Veterans Monument at the Hurricane Community Center. She worked tirelessly helping to maintain the building and grounds.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, February 7, 2025, at Sand Springs Cemetery, with Thad Ross officiating. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

Survivors include her children, Brian Ezell (Kim), Michelle Poe (Bob), and Jayme Sullivant (Bryan); five grandchildren, Kolton Poe (Hillary), Austin Haynie, Jackson Warren (Gracen), Jaden Ezell and Kagen Ezell; and two great-grandchildren, Knox Poe and Desi Poe. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a third great-grandchild, Kipton Jack Warren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack Ezell, who passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at NMMC in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Bob Poe, Bryan Sullivant, Kolton Poe, Jackson Warren, Jaden Ezell, Kagen Ezell, and Knox Poe.
