Mary Alice Rye

Mary Alice Stegall Rye, age 89, died Friday, November 20, 2015 at her residence. She was a member of Troy Baptist Church and a member of the Merry Makers at Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo. She was retired from the banking industry, where she was bank manager at The Peoples Bank, and had worked at First National Bank in Pontotoc also. She enjoyed taking care of her family, gardening, and traveling.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Earl Barron officiating; burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family has entrusted Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc with the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter: Stephanie Rye (Lonnie); two sisters: Syble Earnest (J.C.) and Nita Stone (Malcolm); one brother: Thomas Ray Stegall (Alysha); two sisters-in-law: Edith Stegall and Katie Stegall; one granddaughter: Cassie Nix (Mitch) and three great-grandchildren: Destiny, Michael and Collin; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William Thomas Stegall, Jr., and Claudie Obine Lambert Stegall; her husband: William Thomas “Tom” Rye; a son: William Randle “Randy” Rye; two sisters: Vera Nell Stegall and Etta Marie Stegall and five brothers: Fleetwood Stegall, Royce Stegall, Floyd Stegall, Jessie Allen Stegall and an infant brother.

Pallbearers will be: Jay Poe, Kenny King, Mitch Nix, Mike Earnest, John White and Brandon Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Saturday and from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
