Milton Verrell Hooker

Milton Verrell Hooker, age 88, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at NMMC in Tupelo. He was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church, a retired farmer and a WWII U. S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Thaxton Lion’s Club, a Boy Scout Scout Master and a honorary member of the Thaxton Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting arrowheads and gardening.

Services will be at 2 PM Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Thaxton Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Russell officiating; burial will follow in the Thaxton Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife: Marjorie Russell Hooker of Thaxton; his son: Ricky Hooker (Juanice) of Thaxton; three daughters: Beverly Hutchinson (Don) of Knoxville, TN, Jill Westmoreland (Dennis) of Pontotoc, MS and Regina Prewett (Bobby) of Thaxton, MS; one sister: Verna Lee Russell of Thaxton, MS, a brother: Keith Hooker of San Antonio, TX; nine grandchildren: Chris Hutchinson, Julie Rauen, David Hooker, Brad Hooker, Jody Westmoreland, Jonathan Westmoreland, Rachel Westmoreland, Ethan Westmoreland and Katie Willard; two step-grandsons: Jackie Caldwell and Tommy Caldwell; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Milton Hooker and Ernel Beard Hooker; his daughter: Marsha Hooker a grandson: Jarrod Willard; a granddaughter-in-law: Amanda Westmoreland and two brothers: Waymon Hooker and Preston Hooker.

Pallbearers will be the Thaxton Boy Scouts.

Visitation will be at Thaxton Baptist Church onWednesday from 5 to 8 PM and from 12 to 2 PM Thursday.
