OBITUARY
Ray C. Dyer
November 24, 1924 – April 23, 2014
Ray C. Dyer, age 89, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his residence. He was a member of Longview Baptist Church, where he was an inactive deacon. He served his county during WWII in the Army, where he was a Prisoner Of War for 21 days, and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. After the Army, he worked as a deck hand for the Memphis Riverboat Barge Company and for several years at Daybrite in Tupelo. He was a member of the Pontotoc American Legion Post #16, the V.F.W., D.A.V., and he was a Gideon. He farmed and raised cattle for over 30 years. After retiring he gardened specializing in watermelons. He enjoyed riding 4 wheelers, working, hunting, fishing, playing dominos and rook and playing with his dog.
Services will be at 3:00 PM Friday, April 25, 2014 at Longview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Burzynski, Rev. George Steward, and Rev. Jimmy Russell and Rev. Clyde Pound officiating; burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery with military honors. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Annie Russell Dyer of Longview, MS; his two daughters: Becky Terry of Tupelo, MS and Lisa Dyer of Atlanta, GA; three sons: Mitchell Dyer (Vickie) of Longview, MS, Michael Dyer (Debbie) of Longview, MS and Russell Dyer (Tracy) of Randolph, MS; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard Dyer and Willie Mae Biffle Dyer; three sisters and four brothers.
Pallbearers will be: Mitchell Dyer, Michael Dyer, Russell Dyer, Jason Dyer, Isaac Dyer and Chuck Pound.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 PM and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30PM at the funeral home and at Longview Baptist Church on Friday from 2 to 3 PM.
