Verneal Baker, age 87, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at her residence. She was a member of Springville Baptist Church and retired from Joyner Fields. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and delighted in the beauty of her flowers.
Services will be at 11 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Shawn Moore and Rev. Kevin Crawford officiating; burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her four children: Sherry Ream of Montpelier, MS, Linda Kapenekas (Bill) of Tupelo, MS, Carrol Baker (Jennie) of Pontotoc, MS and Gene Baker (Nell) of Amory, MS; two sisters: Wanda Griffin and Evelyn Moss; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: J.W. Griffin and Ethel Reynolds Griffin; her husband Leland Baker, whom she married August 6, 1945; three sisters: Linnie Mae Reece, Ann Korzekwa and Elsie Pearson and three brothers: Loyd Griffin, Dern Griffin and infant boy Griffin.
Pallbearers will be: Rocky McCord, Billy McCord, Joseph Ream, Tony Baker, Roger Baker and Robert Baker.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday and from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
