Alvis Quay Hodnett

Alvis Quay Hodnett, 92, of Poplarville, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by family.
Mr. Hodnett was born July 4, 1926 in Bodcaw, Arkansas to Thomas Ernest Hodnett and Edna Russell Hodnett. He was a retired platform operator with Gulf Oil Company; a member of Poplarville First United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the US Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. He fought with the 112th Calvary and the 6th Infantry until the end of the war. He then served with the 5th Army Air Corp during the occupation of Japan. He was awarded numerous citations and medals during his time of service including sharp shooter and the bronze star for valor. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Elaine Hodnett; two brothers, Jack Hodnett, Thomas Hodnett.
Family members include three children, Royce (Glenda) Hodnett, Steve (Miriam) Hodnett, Paul (Rhenda) Hodnett; two siblings, Denver Hodnett, Joyce Knighton; eight grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at White Funeral Home, 315 Highway 11 South, Poplarville, MS, 39470 on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Ed King and Rev. Shane Moore will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
