She was best known for her sweet demeanor, caring heart, and quick wit that brought smiles to those around her.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph “Ben” and Marion Davis; her sister, Cindy Davis Cleveland; her brother, Joey Davis; and her former husband, Jerry Hensley.
She is survived by her husband, Charles B. Still; her children, Lane Herrin and Lauren Herrin; and her beloved granddaughter, Avery Herrin. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Geoff (Amanda) Still and Eric (Heather) Still, along with a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.
Adoringly called ReRe by those who loved her, Maria lived her life by the acronym F.R.O.G. — Fully Rely On God, a faith reflected in her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Maria was a proud graduate of Poplarville High School, Pearl River Community College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. She dedicated 47 years of her life to her career as a Medical Technologist. Much of her career was spent serving her community at Pearl River County Hospital and Nursing Home, and Bogalusa Medical Center. In the final ten years of her professional life, Maria combined her love for adventure and service by traveling across the United States as a travel Medical Technologist.
Outside of her work, Maria found joy in cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and—most of all—spending time with her family. She took great joy in the simple pleasures of life, including the Food Network, the Home Shopping Network, and watching her favorite movie, You’ve Got Mail, on repeat. During the Christmas season, she delighted in spreading joy alongside her husband Benny, who portrayed Santa, as she warmly embraced the role of Mrs. Claus.
Maria was a faithfully devoted member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, where she volunteered at Vacation Bible School, served on the Hospitality Committee and as a children’s Sunday School teacher. The beach and lazy river were her happy places, where she found peace and rest.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Maria’s family and friends who lovingly cared for her during her final days: Jenny Williams Miller, John Owen, Skye Alexie, Jo Ellen Kesler, and Jo Lynn Davis. Special thanks are also given to her compassionate care team and nurses at Pearl River County Nursing Home and Arden Hospice for their kindness, love, and exceptional care. The family also wishes to thank the Oak Hill Baptist Church family for their prayers, love, and unwavering support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church Building Fund in her memory.
A memorial will be held at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Poplarville, MS on Sunday, February 15th. Private Family Fellowship - 1pm-3pm in the Fellowship Hall; Open Visitation - 3pm-4pm; Memorial Service at 4pm.
