Monday, September 3, 2012, a wonderful man, Floyd Willis “Bud” Kirkland, moved on to heaven. He was born on April 20, 1929 and lived, except for his time in the Navy, his entire life in and around Poplarville, Mississippi. Bud was a husband, parent, uncle and friend. He was multi-talented, honest to his core, and loyal to the end. He was a devout Christian who lived his life as an example to others and enhanced the lives of all who knew him.
Bud served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict from 1950-54. After returning home from the navy, on October 4, 1954, he married the love of his life, Rine, and they farmed and ran a dairy. Then, while employed by the State of Mississippi, he traveled throughout the state as a livestock inspector and mentored several generations of young cowboys and cowgirls during his many years as a high school rodeo announcer and rodeo producer.
Bud is survived by his wife: LaRine “Rine” Kirkland, three children: Myra Kirkland, Robin Hernandez, and Paul Kirkland; seven grandchildren, one great grandson; many nephews who he loved as his own sons; and two siblings, C.B. Kirkland and Ruth Harriel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cary and Edith McCrae Strahan Kirkland, his daughter Edna Eloise Kirkland, and sister Billie Kirkland Smith.
A celebration of Bud’s life will start at 1:00 p.m. and continue until services start at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the West Poplarville Baptist Church, Hwy 26 West, Poplarville, Ms.
