Katie Rose "Kate" Smith

Kate was born one of five children to Julius and Mae Burge and was raised in the Henleyfield community. She has one surviving brother, Dwight (Eleanor) Burge of Hattiesburg. She married Earl Smith in 1951 and made a home in Poplarville, MS. Kate held many interests to include traveling the country in their RV with her husband Earl. When she was home, she enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors; reading; birdwatching; flowers; gardening; and cooking for her family. Kate was a devoted member of College Heights Baptist Church. Spending time with family and friends brought her much happiness and joy. Kate has left a beautiful legacy, she will be sorely missed.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Smith; and Baby Smith.

Family members include her children, Sheila Smith of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Jerry (Debra) Smith of Poplarville, MS, Kenneth (Jan) Smith of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Russell (Belinda) Smith, Delinah Simmons, Kristen (Landon) Lee, Amy (Packy) Kelley, Matthew Smith; great grandchildren, Eryn Smith, Jaycee Bridgers, Brooke Smith, Kaitlyn-Grace Smith, Braelyn Lee, Smith Kelley, and Elizabeth Homans.

Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery (582 Oak Hill Road, Poplarville, MS, 39470) on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 10:00 am.
