

He was born on March 5, 1938, to George and Mildred Eckinger in Bay City, Michigan. He went to T.L. Handy High School prior to attending the University of Michigan. That is where he met his loving wife of 64 years, Joanne Eckinger, as well as receiving his master’s in education.
He was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity while at the University of Michigan, and he has been a proud member of the alumni association since graduating. He taught mathematics for the entirety of his career for Lakeview Public Schools, where he was recognized as Teacher of the Year by the state of Michigan. He was a football coach at Chippewa Junior High, and he also coached wrestling and football at Lakeview High School. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Hall of Fame, which was a very proud and prestigious moment for him. He spent the last 20 years in Port Charlotte, Florida at Riverwood. His pride and joy were his condo on the 17th hole and his friends that he made there. Everyone that knew him would say that he was a larger-than-life man, who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Jay) Brown; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Brown.
