On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, Louis Archie “L.A.” Hurst, Jr., passed away at the age of 95 from natural causes.

Louis was born on May 15, 1925, in Poplarville, Mississippi, to Louis and Eva (Moody) Hurst. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946, spending two years aboard LST #988. He participated in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of World War II, including the Allied invasion of the south of France. After his military discharge, he enrolled at Mississippi State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He worked for the FDIC for 32 years as a bank examiner and an assistant director of the FDIC’s Memphis Region. Upon retirement, he joined the Board of Directors for the Mississippi State University Foundation. Understanding the importance of education, he used his resources to invest in the lives of students through scholarship opportunities. He was a tried and true Bulldog fan.

Louis was preceded in death by his father, Louis, his mother, Eva, and his sister Mary Louise.

He is survived by his sister, Frances Hurst Schlaudt of Houston, TX; his nephews William Robin Schlaudt of Lufkin, TX, and John Louis Schlaudt of Houston, TX; his niece Frances Marion Schlaudt Yancey of McKinney, TX; 11 great nieces and nephews; and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the Poplarville City Cemetery, 100 W. Larkin I Smith Drive, Poplarville, MS, at 11:00 a.m.
