

Born on August 27, 1940, in Convent, Louisiana, Dickie was the oldest child of Richard Abadie, Sr. and Clara Schexnaydre Abadie. He grew up in Old Metairie, Louisiana, where he attended St. Catherine of Siena School and St. Aloysius High School (class of 1958). He cherished his childhood memories and was especially fond of the time he spent with family in Convent.
Dickie was the proud owner of Dixie Aviation Fueling, where he combined his profession with his passion for airplanes and flying. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and spending time around horses. His enthusiasm for these interests reflected his appreciation for the simple joys of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Abadie, Sr and Clara Schexnaydre Abadie; his sister, Winifred Abadie Orr, brother, Gaston Abadie, and his companion and friend, Rose Gaspar.
He leaves behind his son, Richard Abadie, III (Kim); his daughter, Rosemary Abadie; his cherished grandchildren, Noel Abadie Bruner (Cory), and Emily Abadie; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Rivers Bruner and Marigny Bruner. He is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis Abadie McEvoy, Daryl Abadie and Alfred Abadie; his former wife and close friend, Beverly Hoffecker Abadie; as well as extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He retired to Mississippi where he enjoyed spending time with family, cutting grass (even if he missed a spot), tending to his property, and country life.
Family and friends are invited to attend Dickie's visitation on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 6484 LA-44, Convent, Louisiana, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary Church Cemetery in Union, LA.
