Steve Herndon was an incredible husband, father, brother, and “Papa.” His sense of humor and love for pranks were endless, always ready with a joke, hiding gifts, and keeping his family on their toes. He was calm, a voice of reason in a world that spoke chaos, he never judged, was respectful and loving!
Steve was known by so many throughout the communities of Poplarville and Picayune through places like Bargain Box, Movie Star Outlet, and PRCC. If you had the privilege of meeting this remarkable man, you know he had a special way of loving and encouraging others. Whether he was teaching, helping, or even interacting with the nurses who cared for him, Steve made people feel seen, valued, and cared for, all while keeping everyone smiling.
He loved deeply, lived faithfully, and leaves behind memories that will continue to be shared for generations.
While our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life well lived and a legacy that will never be forgotten.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Eldora Herndon; two brothers, James W. Cavendish and Glyndal "Pee Wee" Herndon; one sister, Brenda "Missie" Landry; one sister-in-law, Melanie Kirkland Herndon and two children, Matthew Herndon and Baby Herndon.
Left to forever cherish Steve's memory, his loving wife of 45 years, Lisa Herndon; two daughters, Melinda Stuart (Tony) and Amber Sandercock (Nathan); granddaughter, Imogen Sandercock; one brother, Jessie Herndon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend Steve's Memorial Gathering, Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Blue Heron Barn, 377 Sam Smith Road, Poplarville, Mississippi.
