It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Ben Slobbe in Port Alberni, BC on Sunday, February 14, 2021 surrounded by love.
Predeceased by daughter Lisa Cousins and grandbaby Lucas of Chinchilla Australia; siblings Rita, Gerda and Gerry.
Survived by loving wife Judith; daughter Yvonne of Leamington, ON, daughter Donna of Toronto, ON; nieces Renata and Deanna, both of Australia; mother in law Margaret Crowley of Port Alberni, BC , brother in law Paul (Janice) Hart of Lindsay, On, brother in law Thomas(Michele) Hart of Port Alberni, BC and sister in law Sharon (Jim) Lanouette of Edmonton, AB.
Born in Holland, Ben moved to Hamilton Ontario in 1953 and went to work for Stelco Canada. The company was very good to him and allowed him to be educated as a mechanical engineer. He then moved to Australia and lived there for 25 years working for Mount Isa Mines until his retirement. He retuned back to Canada in 1991, and opened a handyman business to help seniors with repairs and help around their homes. He loved gardening –their gardens were a constant wonder to their neighbours, stamp collecting and learned how to make latchett rugs. He and Judith moved to Port Alberni, BC in 2018.
Services will be held for Ben on Friday, February 26, 2021 at St Anne’s Parish in Abbotsford with burial to follow in Valley View Cemetery.
