Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Noella; brother Jim; and great-grandson Lane; Ted is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sylvia; children Donna (Brad), Ted (Brigitte), Susan (Jim), Sean (Sherri), and Tina (Glen); 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn, as well as extended family and friends.
Born in Quebec, Ted lived in many different places while growing up. He served in the Air Force in the mid-1950s, and it was during his time that he met and married the love of his life, Sylvia. Once his time with the Air Force was completed, they moved to British Columbia and raised their family. Ted loved being outdoors, which guided him towards a career in the Forest Industry. He started at the age of 14 as a whistle punk for M & B, and worked his way up to supervisor of the Cameron Division of M & B, a position that he held until his retirement in 1990. Ted was also very involved in the community. He coached track and field, soccer, softball, and baseball, was a Cub Leader, and also served in the Port Alberni COPS Patrol for three years. He was instrumental in acquiring the land for the Motocross Track which still runs today and he was an avid fan and supporter of the Port Alberni Bulldogs regularly attending their games and practices. The most important thing in Ted’s life was his family. He was a devoted and caring husband and father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was lovingly referred to by the younger ones as “Jelly-Bean Papa”. He always loved seeing and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.
Many thanks to the amazing Dr. Lund, all the nurses & specialists in the I.C.U where he received excellent compassionate care; to the cancer clinic and cancer lodge in Victoria and the Canadian Cancer Society office in Port Alberni.
