Aug. 20,1951 – Sept. 17,2023
Liz came into the world with more problems than the rest of us but she taught us how to handle the life you are given, accept it and deal with it. With the help of our wonderful mother, she made much of her limited opportunities.
At the time of her birth a community group, led by Mrs. Hope Porter, had seen the need for alternate education for special needs children. They saw the potential in those who learned differently and started Arrowsmith School. Liz thrived there, learning not only academics but life skills as well. After leaving school Liz found a job at Remploy Second-Hand store and worked there until it closed, she then started house cleaning. When her grandmother had a stroke and her mother needed to care for her, Liz was the helper.
Liz loved Christmas shopping, presents for everyone up to the third generation. She started shopping right after Christmas and spreading it through the year. She knew how to stretch her budget. In December was wrapping for that whole big family. For the get-together, when It was time to put presents in the mail, she was all ready.
When mom died and Liz could not live alone, she was lucky enough to find a home at Cool Waters. She thrived there as well. Proud of her own space, joining in all activities, making new friends, and helping others out. She and her special friend Linda had some great times, and we want to thank her especially for her hospital visits.
Liz was predeceased by mother Mary Maher, father Tom Maher and brother Mike Maher, sister-in-law Patricia Maher, 2 brothers-in-law, John McDonald and Bradley Robinson as well as 2 nephews, D’Arcy McDonald and Matthew Robinson.
