Eric was born in Peterborough, Ontario to Clayton and Muriel (Dolly) Hockaday on September 20, 1943. He had 11 brothers and sisters. When Eric was 29 years old, he left his home in Ontario to travel Canada on his 1969 Triumph motorcycle. He was very proud of that bike & took it on a 2 month journey to Smithers, BC in 1973. He got a job as a custodian for School District # 54 and kept it for 25 years. He also worked for the Interior News for many years delivering local newspapers to all the businesses. He even started his own cleaning business, Man-Maid House Cleaning Services.
He sure did love living in Smithers, he loved the community there and the outdoors. He spent his spare time kayaking, camping, practicing his archery and woodcarving, and just being an all around friendly guy.
It comes with great sadness to announce that Eric passed away peacefully at Ty Watson House in Port Alberni, BC after a long battle with cancer. Always a present figure at coffee shops, ready to engage in conversation, Eric will leave a huge void in our hearts and community. He left the world a more positive place and will be dearly missed by many. May he rest in paradise.
Eric was survived by his three children: Candace, Timothy & Michael, a great number of siblings and extended family members.
