Gerald is also survived by special long-time friends Lloyd and Shirley Fairley.
Gerald moved to Port Alberni with his family as a young boy. He met Maureen when they were in their early teens. Gerald began working for APD at the age of 16 doing weekend work and eventually had many years of service as a boat operator. Always active, Gerald will be remembered for his involvement in hockey, and fastball when he was not working at APD. He loved to ride his bicycle all over the island ~ from Tofino to Victoria and anywhere he felt like riding. Daily bike rides took him along River Road where his sweet tooth lead him to the Donut Shop at Harbour Quay. The Donut Shop was also where Gerald usually ended up at least once a day not only because of the donuts but also because it was close to the water. He would often sit by the water watching the goings-on at Harbour Quay and Victoria Quay. He loved people but more than anything he loved family. Gerald made sure he was there for all the grandchildren’s hockey games, dance recitals and sports events whenever they were involved.
A Celebration of Gerald’s Life will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, December 16th, 2011 from the Chapel of Memories, 4005 – 6th Ave. Condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
