It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend Paulie Gaudet.
Paulie was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Karin, and his companion of 14 years, Helen. He is survived by his children Ben (Patty), Gary, and Paul (Orietta) of Terrace, BC, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, close personal friends, and special friend Vera.
Paulie was born and raised in Port Alberni, spending his full life here in the valley. He was a hard working, loyal, and friendly family man. He started work at the age of 14, delivering firewood for his brother Johnny to help contribute to the family’s income supporting his mother and family members. He started his skills training as an electrician’s helper, but soon switched to becoming a carpenter. He built his first home at age 23 with help from family and friends. He worked his trade with Port Home Builders, MB Plywood plant, and finishing at School District 70. Some of his builds include Echo Pool, Harbour Quay including building the Clock Tower, out of town projects in Gold River, Ladysmith, Kelsey Bay, and Washington state, as well as many more in town.
Not all work, Paulie played ball for many local teams, enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing crib. He was a member of the Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Sunshine Club. His many bus trips with family and friends out of town for sporting events, and of course the casino always brought a smile to his face. He enjoyed a good party and spending time with friends and family.
A special thank you to Dr Woodley and the staff of Echo village who provided the love and care of our Dad where he spent the last three years.
A Memorial Mass will be held on June 7th at 11:00 am at Holy Family Notre Dame Roman Catholic Parish, 4731 Burke Road, Port Alberni. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate you to make a donation in Paulie’s name to a charity of your choice.
