You were always there for every exciting time in my life. I always couldn't wait to tell you when something in my life was changing... good or bad. I wanted you there. I love you poppa and i missed you a lot today.

Thought about you today dad .. I went out hunting today and it made me think of special times shared with you and mom hunting or camping. We all love you and miss you so much and wish you were still here with mom.. she. Still misses  you so much and we still tear up when we talk about you. Forever missed.. fondly thought of and never forgotten. Love you .. bones

She loves you so much dad and while she doesn’t get over it she gets through it and still is going strong . How I wish I could talk to you and let you know she is ok and tell you one more time that we love you . We may not have your presence but we had your love and we have our memories

A year has passed already and I still feel heavy hearted and tear up every time I think of you dad.. yesterday was a tough day and not quite knowing what to write or to say as I had so much I was feeling ..I love and miss you dad and I have so many good  memories,  sometimes it’s hard to believe your really gone. I still feel you are with us pop.. you are  always in our thoughts 

October 14th marks the  first anniversary since you left us dad . It has been a hard year but true to our word and what you would have wanted , we have been there to help mom through the hard times . We have missed  , we have cried , we have talked about the good times and managed to share many laughs and most of all we have remembered a life well lived . I miss you very much . Strange as this may sound to some .I can’t mow the lawn at your house without looking up to the window in the front or the sun deck in the back and remember how you never failed to go from front to back waving and never forgetting to thank me for mowing the lawn when you couldn’t do it anymore . I tear up when I don’t see you physically there waving but it’s a memory nobody can take from me  and in my heart I see you dad . I see you , I remember you , I love you . I will never  forget 

Ever since the passing of Uncle Henry I have been thinking of the closeness of our two families. It has taken me back to my childhood in Alma and thoughts of my favourite aunt, uncle and cousins.  So many thoughts of Alma - the snow, toboggans, snowmobiles, while the summer was motorcycles, swimming at the lake, fishing, boating, berry picking , playing kick-the-can  at the camp, etc. So many family get-togethers and fun in the comfortable atmosphere of family. 

I recall a letter from  Uncle Henry to Karen when we lived together in Calgary. Uncle Henry had  included  his thoughts on choices in life. He had said that all our choices have consequences, and that it is up to us as to whether the consequences are good or bad.  Wise words. Here it is 50 years later and those words still resonate with me. 
    
Peter, Dan and I feel for all of you knowing that your husband and father cannot be replaced and will always be missed.  

We express our sorrow and empathy but these are just words and they do not convey the depth of our sorrow. Let me leave you with the thought that we all have the gift of memory; memories that make us  sad today because we miss him will eventually make us smile and laugh. I am sure he would love that!! 

So sorry for your loss, I remember your dad well, all those nights we played kick the can in the cul de sac. He always made time for us chatty and i am sure some times annoying kids. He loved to chat and give great advice . He would always stop what he was doing to make time for us. Lots of great memories hanging out by EJDunn.  I wish all the family my best!

Dad I know that for many years you and I struggled with having a healthy relationship as we were both stubborn men and saw the world in a different way. We were two different people and there was no right or wrong just opposing view’s. I’m happy that over the last nine or ten years we were able to put our differences aside and love and respect each other for who we are as men(Father and Son )You worked hard to provide for a large family (7kids) and kept us feed and clothed and a roof over our heads .As kids loved going fishing and hunting and snowmobiling and in later years moose hunting.Although independent Mom was your and our Rock and has remained so till the Lord called you home. It is now our job as your grown children to be Mom”s Rock and help her through the greatest loss of her life time and we will succeed. I know the last couple of years were tough on you Dad as your physical and mental health began to deteriorate but you still kept a smile on your face .You were and are a good man Dad , thank you for giving me life and teaching me right from wrong.I know you didn’t want to leave Mom but the Lord called you home and I pray your sisters, brother and parents were waiting to greet you when you got to heaven . May the Lord wrap his arms around you Dad. I love and will miss you Dad and will seek solace in the knowledge that your mind and body are now free and able to soar in the Heavens. To my Dad in a final tribute, I would like to touch on some other points. Every son & every daughter should have a father like mine…..He loved us all equally & unconditionally & was so proud of his family & especially of our mom, the most loving, caring, compassionate woman, that he could ever have married almost 70 years ago. She’s been his rock for so many years……& our rock as well, & saw dad thru till his final day & so how very special is that, & what a shining example of what all couples should aspire to in a marriage. Sure there was rough spots here & there along their long path together & for all of us siblings at times, but no family goes thru their lives together without them & so what matters the most is that they were so few of those rough spots in comparison to all the good that happened for us all. In closing I’d like to add this pic taken at his 90th birthday where I surprised my parents with the identical Triumph that he’d purchased 50 years earlier in 1970. It’s such a wonderful memory & one we’ll always share as a family. Till we meet again Dad, love Lance, Anita, Carly, Erik, Ashley & Joelene.     

It’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I share some of my thoughts after my father’s recent passing. I owe a real debt of gratitude to my father in so very many ways, whether it was the fishing rod he put in my hands before I was 6 years old, or the shotgun he purchased for me & proudly watched me sneak up to & bag my 1st grouse at age 12, or my 1st moose hunt in northern Quebec when I was just 15. It was he who called me in Calgary in 1974 to persuade me to rejoin the family who’d all moved from Alma to Port Alberni where he’d recently found work as a sheet metal worker in the papermill. I began working there soon after & spent 42 years working there till my retirement is 2016 while my dad retired in 1995. It was my dad who taught me how to weld, to fabricate, & showed me carpentry skills. It was my dad who showed me patience, & perseverance on many fronts & helped me develop many of the skills that it takes when it comes to hunting big game. We traveled north to hunt in northern B.C.  32 years in a row & only came home once without a moose, & so a pretty remarkable track record for sure, By 2009 & at  80 years of age he had to reluctantly give up his strongest passion, & could only patiently wait till I got back every year from hunts with our group, to eagerly listen to our (always true lol!) stories of sights & sounds & hopefully success! This year was no exception, & although he was very ill when I left in mid-September, he hung on till I got back 25 days later & was so happy to see me & hear tales of just 1more hunting trip! I could write a book on the dozens of weeks we spent together & or as a family with my mom & my wife & our daughters when they were just 1 or 2 years old in northern B.C. hunting & fishing,  & so it’s so fitting that in a letter he left the family to be read after his passing, that he would mention wanting his ashes to be spread where we hunted & fished, in spectacular country. Missing you dad terribly already, love Lance, Anita, & family

I shared a workplace  with this wonderful "Working man's man" He was a character who loved to bait supervisors....so much so that he seemed to intimate his ..."SUPERVISORS!!... on a regular basis to the point where they backed off....,because Henry would not. Every  management personal ...knew Henry....And appeared to  be frightened by him.....A life well lived.....(along with a million speed bumps along the way,right Joan?)........Someday you'll go hunting again with Henry again Joan.


I know you were tired dad … and I know we were lucky to have you live such a long and wonderful life .. but it hurts dad . Til we see each other again , Rest In Peace

This is one of my favourite photos. We had spent all day moose hunting, driving five clicks an hour in hopes of getting some grouse for dinner. You were so proud and I enjoyed everytime you would tell our story of my first moose together. Man I miss you and have so much love for you Poppa. Thank you for being there at every big accomplishment and showing me unconditional love. I'll take our quad out hunting, and think of you at every turn.

Dad I’m gonna miss you..when I look back at all the times you and  mom took me boating, fishing and camping trips together they were some of the best days and memories of my life. You were so proud of me when you were teaching me to have a fast start for running and teaching me how to get more distance In long jump and your nick name for me “bones”..But your true passion for hunting became mine. I remember your face and how you lit up when I got my first moose the first year we went up travelling together.. and your favourite secret place.We would also talk about everything hunting I was doing and I know you were proud of me that I followed in your footsteps..crack shot like my dad. I was very proud of you dad for what you taught me about moose hunting.. and you passed that knowledge on and I learned many other things stemming from that and even took up bow hunting and bill and the girls also!!!..the biggest thing you taught me was family.. I know how much you loved your whole family dad and how you looked at Bill “willie” as a son  and that you prayed for us and I value my own little family more than anything in the world..was the biggest gift you passed on to me and  for that I have no words..I love you dad and I will always be forever grateful to have had you for this many years in  our lives.. one day we will meet again and share many  more stories..love Joanie bill and Kirsten Lyndsey and Paige 

l always admired you Uncle Henry. You had a huge heart and a sweet smile. You were a wonderful human being and had the greatest outlook on life. You had integrity decency and kindness in your soul. Much love on your journey.

You taught us so much growing up. From enjoying the outdoors to learning to fish, and to be respectful of the wildlife and to hunt with appreciation and responsibility.
From sports to the tv remote that you loved. To the prayers you said for each of your kids and for your wife and for the rest of the world.
You've left us to be with the almighty, and we just weren't ready for it .
Driving home from your place the other day,  I pulled over and looked up to the sky, I said out loud, where are you dad? Give me a sign your smiling and you will be waiting to show  us one day the way home when we are called to return.
