July 29, 1951 – September 4, 2016
It is with deep sadness that the family of Jake Douglas Leyenaar announces his passing on Sunday, September 4, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his son David and sister Helena; Jake will be greatly missed by his wife Lois, daughter Deanne Allen (Bryan and son Nicholas), son Curtis (Michelle, daughters Olivia and Emily) brother John (Diane and daughter Alannah) and many extended family and cherished friends.
Jake loved life in the Alberni Valley. Born Lethbridge, Alberta, Jake moved to Port Alberni with his family as a young teenager. Here he believed he had found the outdoorsman’s paradise. Large in life with just as much personality, he forged many lasting friendships as he became an avid hunter and fisherman. There was no other place he would have wanted to raise his family, of which he was immensely proud. Jake was employed at School District 70 in various positions in the Custodial Department and was the Custodial Supervisor when he retired. Jake involved himself in many community, church and workplace committees but his passion was always Salmon Enhancement, raising Coho for future generations and also preserving the salmon stocks that the Valley already had.
Please join us in a Celebration of Jake’s life at 2:30pm, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Alberni Athletic Hall, 3737 Roger Creek Road. A private interment has taken place. Stories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jakes memory may be made to the Alberni Valley Enhancement Association, #7 – 5440 Argyle St, Port Alberni, BC., V9Y 1T7.
