Jeanne Marie Bernier Pelchat

Pelchat; Jeanne Marie (baptized Joan d’Arc) passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 , surrounded by her family with the Major League Playoffs in full swing. She was 87 years of age.

Predeceased by her husband Godfrey W.; 6 brothers: Paul, Donat, Romuald, Aime, Leo and Romeo Bernier and one sister Aurore Grosjean. Jeanne is survived by her children: Raymond, Conrad (Rosanne), Maurice and Elaine McLaughlin (Walter); grandchildren: Trevor McLaughlin (Lynsey), Carly Dupuis (Curt), Blair McLaughlin and Thomas Collins; great granddaughters Airianna and Madisyn and brother Fern and sisters-in-law: Alice, Jean and Jeanine Bernier as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Jeanne worked for many years in the plywood mill. She enjoyed both square dancing and round dancing. Jeanne was a very active and athletic person. She loved sports and excelled at all of them but particularly ball and floor curling. She was never one to compromise and was instrumental in the fight for the ladies being allowed to play on the better fields where the men played. She will be dearly missed by her family.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 6th Avenue. A Funeral Service will take place at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 18 at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Parish, 4731 Burke Rd. with Fr. Stephen Paine officiating. Cremation to follow.
