Johnny Reeves of Port Alberni passed away Saturday August 12, surrounded by all those who loved him; his wife Mame, his stepchildren Kim (Judy), Lynne (Bruce), and Richard, as well as many grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and son-in-law Richard.
Johnny was born September 3, 1927 to Pearl (Richmond) and Edward Reeves in Swan River, Manitoba.
He came to BC for a holiday in 1947 and never looked back. Johnny knew from a very young age he wanted to build and landed an apprenticeship with a cabinet works.
Later he transitioned to the building trades. After working a number of years for Souther Construction in Port Alberni, he bought the company in 1968. He became a very successful industrial contractor, erecting many notable area buildings, including EJ Dunn School, the Federal Building on Argyle Street, and Bob Dailey Stadium and field houses.
When Johnny retired, he found a new home at the Industrial Heritage Society, where he made many great friends.
He was the youngest of ten children and is survived by one sibling, sister Fern of Nanaimo.
At Johnny’s request, there will be no formal services.
