Predeceased by his parents James and Agnes Cooper, and sister Katheryn Cooper, he is survived by his beloved wife Glenna; 2 daughters: Christine McWhirter (Dennis) and Valerie Cooper as well as his sister Louise Smith (Bill) and other relatives and friends.
Melvin lived with his family in Ucluelet from 1976 until moving to Port Alberni in 2009. He worked until his retirement in 2001 with Westwood Power and Marine. He was also involved in the life and community of Ucluelet, sitting on the Regional District Board, being involved in the local fish and game club. Melvin loved the outdoors and was always happiest when he was out communing with nature. He loved to hunt, fish and shoot (even shooting competitively for a while). As Alzheimer’s took its toll these things were gradually taken away.
