Norm is predeceased by his parents, brother Bob, and sister Maureen, and survived by his brothers Ron, Larry, Doug, and Rick, sisters Deanna and Janine, loving wife of 40 years Bonnea, first wife Lorna, children Cyndi (Scott), Shaun (Lori-Anne), Braden, Jocelan (Charles) and Allyne (Jordan), grandchildren Madeline, Makenzie, Morgan, Evan, Gage, Delaney, Sydney, Connor, Ocea, Quinn, Rohan and Ayana, great grandchildren Mason, Landon, Theodore, Corbin, and Nathaniel, who joined us on the day Norm left, and too many nephews and nieces to mention.
Born in Nelson, BC, he spent his early life in the Slocan Valley, before moving to the East End of Vancouver in his youth. He spent his early adulthood in Gold River, BC, where he was remembered fondly whenever he returned. He spent time in Panama in recent years, where he enjoyed watching colorful sunsets with his wife and adopted pets.
Norm was charming, passionate and generous with his time and attention. He loved nature, especially forests and the ocean, and lived in constant awe of the wonder and complexity of the universe, from which he drew an electric intensity.
He paired natural magnetism and charisma with keen interests in geology, industry, and finance to build a successful career in the mining and mineral exploration business. His professional life swung between extreme highs and lows, but was never boring. Norm defied convention habitually, and was governed by a strong moral compass and a keen sense of justice. He was strong-willed, with supreme confidence, and frequently used a stark, powerful delivery to get across, but was never afraid to be soft, loving, and forgiving. He loved dogs, bonded with them easily, and was kind to children and animals.
Norm will be remembered for building confidence in the people he loved, by believing in them the way they wanted to be believed in, making it easy for them to believe in themselves. He was loved deeply, and will be missed by many.
