Born on September 9, 1953 in Medford, Oregon, Norman passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 59 years of age. Predeceased by his parents Paul and Herdis Meunier, Norman is survived by his beloved wife Sherry, children: Aaron Veresh (Mindy), Stacey Veresh (Roddy) and Rhonda Meunier (Jason), grandchildren: Riley and Jaidyn; siblings: Paulette Nystrom (Roland), Richard Meunier (Pam) and Jeanette Detaeye (Dan) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In 1974, Norm Meunier arrived in Port Alberni. It was here he put down his roots. Soon after, Norm began working with the city, holding various positions, ultimately finding his niche within the water works department. He committed himself to his duties and in 1991 was honoured with the position of utilities superintendent, where he spent eighteen years until his retirement.
Always a devoted family man, it was Norm's commitment that transcended to all levels of his life. More than a boss he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor. Meticulous in nature, he always had a place for everything. An accomplished athlete, Norm had a passion for sport. Coaching local baseball and playing most of his life. Undeniably a 49ers fan, he also loved the great outdoors and had a passion for fishing. It was a required activity if you were one of Norm's children. A favourite escape for him and Sherry and if you knew him for any length of time it wasn't long until he would invite you to join him. A true gentleman, devoted husband, always the jokester known as Uncle Norm. He was a respected colleague, loving father, brother and grandfather. Norm Meunier touched the hearts of all that knew him. He will be loved always and never forgotten.
A memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 23rd at the Glenwood Sports Centre, 4480 Vimy St, Port Alberni, BC. Donations in Norm's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon, 1212 W. Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V2
