Bob was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Dec 15, 1940. Bob and his mother moved to Vancouver in 1945 to await the arrival of his father who had been a prisoner of war in Germany. He enrolled at UBC in 1958. After one year he had to leave to support his mother. He worked at BC Tel for 3 years and then resumed his studies at UBC. It was there that he met the love of his life, Margaret Banning. They were married on Jan 2, 1965. Bob finished his bachelors degree and received his teaching certificate the following year. His high marks earned him an invitation to the Dean’s Tea and he and Dean Gage entertained the rest of the honorees by taking turns playing the piano. He completed his masters degree at UVIC after they were married.
In 1966 Bob was offered a teaching position in SD 70 Port Alberni. Early on in his career he joined the Power Squadron where he was president one year and continued to teach Powder Squadron courses. He also joined the RCMP Auxiliary where he was able to diffuse some difficult situations with his common sense and wisdom. Bob and Margaret were both active in the church, teaching Sunday School where Bob was also the pianist.
In 1977 Bob and Marg moved to Sproat Lake. Bob joined the Sproat Lake Fire Department. He was active member until 2014. Bob was a student of Esperanto and after many years of sponsoring a lunch hour club, he was successful in having it included in the curriculum at ADSS. Bob and Margaret purchased an acre of waterfront on Lasqueti Island where they camped with their children until the house next door was purchased. They enjoyed many summers and Christmases at Lasqueti.
Bob is survived by his wife Margaret, Scott (Tanya, Carter, and Dale), Ross (Micah, Sharon, Lee, Ben, Daniel and Taljah) and Robyn.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Jean Hudson and his half-sister Yvonne Pearson.
Bob’s Celebration of Life will be held a First Baptist Church on Friday, April 4th, 2025. Visitation at 2:00 pm, funeral service to begin at 2:30 with refreshments to follow.
Bob was a loving, devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed! “Till we meet again”
