Shirley Jack

Shirley was predeceased by her eldest son, Irvin, and her youngest daughter, Sandra.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest; her eldest daughter, Myrna; her youngest son, Alan; her grandchildren by Myrna, Clayton and Shannon (Jeff Macleod); and her grandchildren by Sandra, John and Richard (David McIvor) and Jackson (Brian Gallagher); her brother, Stanley; and her sisters, Dorothy and Marian.

Shirley was born on December 18, 1932. She was the daughter of Simon and Sarah Chester of what is now called the Ditidaht First Nation. She was raised in the Village of Clo-ose on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Shirley met Ernest Jack of what is now called the Huu-ay-aht First Nations in 1947. By1949, they were married and moved to the Village of Bamfield that same year. Together, they had four children: the late Irvin in 1949, Myrna in 1951, the late Sandra in 1955 and Alan in 1961. In 1969, they moved to the Town of Parksville where her children attended secondary school and started their own families. Shirley became the heart and soul of all family life. With the support of her devoted husband and their children, she helped create a life of tender, unconditional love for her grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at 9:30am – 10:00am, Monday, October 18th, 2010 with a Funeral Service to follow at 10:00am from the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 – 6th Ave, Port Alberni, BC. Interment to follow in Alberni Valley Memorial Gardens.
