Predeceased by grandparents Klieve and Mae Kiefer, Des Morris, Nils and Joy Fahlborg, honorary grandparents Grandma and Grandpa West and step-dad Ken Fahlborg.
Steven is survived by his fiancé Amanda Rae Olver and daughter Livia Olver, father Allan Kiefer (Barb), mother Marion Fahlborg, Brothers Rob Kiefer (Robin) and Ryan Kiefer (Christal), nephew Arel Kiefer, nieces Emilie and Charlet Kiefer, friend since childhood Kurt Hoi, close friend Aimee Anderson and her family, and beloved dog Winston.
Steven was born in Port Alberni and grew up at Sproat Lake. He attended Sproat Lake Elementary, Klitsa school and ADSS. He loved the island and especially the Alberni Valley, often saying it was the best place on earth. Steven was always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. As a jack of all trades, he worked as a cook in Tofino, a roofer, and in construction. He was a licensed realtor and small business manager of the landscaping and arborist business Tim’s Trimmings. He also spent some years beekeeping and harvesting, processing and selling honey.
During his childhood, Steven was a member of the local Sea Cadets. Some of his youth was spent serving the Salvation Army and Lord in faith, playing baritone in the brass band. Steven had an affinity for math and science and enjoyed history, playing chess, exploring how the universe works and learning about the World Wars. You could often hear him say, “Hey did you know that…”. His sense of humor and goofy faces left you rolling your eyes or laughing until your stomach hurt, and you could hear his booming laughter as he teased those he knew, usually with a familiar guitar rift attached. Steven was a talented musician, playing keyboard, saxophone, drums and guitar. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock and blues music. Steven enjoyed flying his remote RC airplanes and watching old TV shows like Mash and Bonanza. Steven had an enthusiastic and spontaneous spirit that took him on many adventures and his most memorable moments were spent exploring Sproat Lake and boating on the ocean.
Rest in peace Steven, the ocean is all yours. We love you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Elim Tabernacle, 3946 Wallace Street, Port Alberni, BC, on Saturday February 21, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with a tea immediately following.
