He was predeceased by his father Walter, son Kelly and brother Bob. Walter came to the Alberni Valley at the age of 15, along with his father, to work on the construction of the Pulp Mill. Soon after, he was offered a job as a Longshoreman, which he worked at for over 42 years. He met and married Betty in the early 60's and in 1970, the family bought a farm. Walter became a delivery driver for Taylor's Flowers and eventually took over the bookkeeping. Walter would spend his leisure time working on the farm with his tractor and taking part in his lifelong love of hockey, whether playing the game himself, acting as a hockey scout or running conditioning camps for up and coming promising hockey players.
Walter was a hard-working, loving and dedicated husband, father and member of the community. He will always be loved and remembered by his family and friends as a kind, gentle and humourous man.
May God accept his soul into His heavenly kingdom and may he rest in peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Bavarian Centre at 3031 4th Ave. in Port Alberni.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory can be made to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation, 3949 Port Alberni Hwy, V9Y 4S1. The level of care for Walter is deeply appreciated.
