

It is with deep regret to inform you of the passing of Frances Lorene Maxfield who died on February 1, 2012 at Forks Community Hospital at age 92. She was preceded in death by her husband Casper Arthur Maxfield Jr., her oldest grandson, Douglas Leroy II, and her eldest great grandson, Gerald Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Art, Roy and Elmer Conaway and by her sisters, Ellen Conaway, Bessie Cole and Fay Clark. She is survived by her sister, Grace Doty.
She was born in Zillah, Washington to George and Lena Conaway on April 13, 1919. She married Casper Arthur Maxfield, Jr. on November 23, 1936. Art and Frances moved to Forks after WWII in November 1946 and lived at Shuwah on the family homestead, they moved to the Bogachiel to live on the Halverson place and then moved to the Maxfield homestead on Quillayute Prairie in November 1947 and lived there until her death.
Frances and Arthur had been involved in the Eastern Star since the 1940's. They were Matron and Patron of Mt. Olympus Chapter #253 numerous times. Frances and Art organized and ran the dances at the Quillayute Valley Grange Hall every saturday night for years. They lived on the family farm on the Quillayute for nearly 65 years. They raised their 5 children and numerous grandchildren there. Frances' last job was hostess at the Vagabond Cafe where she retired in 2002.
She is survived by her five children, George (Betsy) of Chesapeake, MD; Douglas (Nancy) of Bowie, MD; Darel of Forks, WA; Barbara (Thomas) of Bakersfield, CA and Curtis (Toni) of Kent, WA; 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Frances will buried in Quillayute Prairie Cemetery in a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for the children.
