Alfred E. Smith, 78, of Punta Gorda originally of Staten Island, New York, passed away on Friday February 8, 2008. Alfred was a native Staten Islander. He served in the Armed Forces in Germany in WWII. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, an avid bowler and enjoyed time with his family. He worked at National Cash Register Company and retired to Port Charlotte in 1990. He married Ethel Thompson in 1955 they were married for 38 years and Ethel died in 1993. He was survived by two daughters Janet Coriell and Debra Hermantin. He has six grandchildren William, Roch, Patrick, Brittany, Andrew, Lindsey, and also companion Patsy Hughes.
A visitation will be held at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home at 635 E. Marion Ave. Punta Gorda on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
