Anthony Capizzi, Sr, 87, of Punta Gorda, FL died January 25, 2007. He was born March 14, 1919 in the Bronx, New York. Mr. Capizzi retired in 1982 as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He moved to Punta Gorda in 1985 from Columbia, CT. Mr. Capizzi was an accomplished musician who played several instruments. As a jazz guitarist, he played with the Moonlighters in CT and locally he played big band and jazz at various venues, which included Mamma Nuzzias Restaurant. Mr. Capizzi was an avid fisherman who loved the water. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Knights of Columbus and the Sons of Italy. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends.
He is survived by his companion, Mary Jaep of Pt Charlotte, FL; children, Anthony Helen Capizzi Jr of Columbia, CT; Thomas Jeanne Capizzi Sr of Marstons Mills, MA; Patricia Blish, Joy Mercure and Carol Dick Elwell, all of Mansfield, CT; a sister, Josephine Bill Scofield of Kissimmee, FL; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was pre deceased by his wife Josephine in 2004 and a brother, Thomas during WWII.
