
Arthur Art Vaughn, 75, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in Punta Gorda FL, where he had lived for the past 5 years. Art was born in Alabama City, Alabama. He moved to Miami in 1959 where he was employed by American Hospital Supply and opened a new branch for AHS which served all of Florida and parts of South America. He was promoted to Contract Manager and was instrumental in the design and furnishing of hospitals, including Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.
Art moved to Ft Lauderdale to become the Purchasing Director for Plantation General Hospital. While there, he also worked on the remodeling of Valley Hospital in Las Vegas. Art returned to Miami to open Florida Hospital Supply, which was later sold. At that time, he accepted the position of Purchasing Director for South Miami Hospital. He remained there until a debilitating illness forced his retirement. He loved the hospital and always felt that he had to leave the best job he ever had.
Art is survived by his wife, Betty Gentry Vaughn, of Punta Gorda, FL; his loving daughter Tamara Tammy Vaughn of Punta Gorda, FL; two beloved sons, Robert L Vaughn and wife Linda, of Ft Myers FL and Joseph N. Vaughn and wife Theresa Terri of Punta Gorda FL; his beloved granddaughter, Cierra N. Vaughn of Ft Myers FL; and his two dear friends and fishing buddies, Allen Randolph and Don Rowan.
A celebration of Arts life will be held at 6:00 PM Friday, August 24, 2007 at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home 635 E. Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his name to the Make a Wish Foundation at www.wish.org or to your local animal shelter.
