Basil Rayburn Walton Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Basil Rayburn Walton Jr. on August 25, 2023, in Port Charlotte, Fl. Basil (A.K.A. Ray, Butch, Dad and Papa Butch) was born on August 23, 1941, in Marion. IN to Basil and Mildred Walton. Basil is survived by partner Sylvia Beals, daughters, Kimberly (James) Quade, Julie (Brian) Miller, grandchildren, Chad Walton, Lauren Walton, Pace Michele, Aidan Quade, Cameron Quade and Erica Quade, sisters, Peggy Pace and Carol (Jim) Fisher. Predeceased by Beth Ann Walton, son, Eric Walton, parents Basil and Mildred Walton and sister, Janet Mercker.

Ray graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Business, served 4 years in the Navy, graduating from OCS school. Many of his working years were spent in finance, and he was involved in local politics. Ray raised his family in Colorado, enjoyed fishing and boating in addition to weekly card games with friends. Right before retirement, Ray moved to Florida where he was lucky enough to meet Sylvia and spent a lot of time boating and playing cards with his sisters.

Papa Butch as he was known to his grandkids was a loving grandparent and provided many laughs and fun moments. His daughters knew him to be an excellent father who was also considered a great friend.

Anyone that was lucky enough to know Basil (Ray, Butch, Dad and Papa Butch) got to enjoy his sense of humor, gentle demeanor, and kind spirit. He will be greatly missed.

Services have been arranged with Kays-Ponger & Funeral home: Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services | Funeral & Cremation| Dignity Memorial. The burial will be on September 22, 2023, at Sarasota National Cemetery at 11:30 am. Family and friends will be gathering to celebrate Basil’s adventurous zest for life at a luncheon at 12:30 pm at Riverwood Activity Center, 4250 Riverwood Drive, Port Charlotte, FL.
