Betty Bernice Swanson, a long time Englewood resident, passed away on May 9, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida. She was born in Blue Earth, Minnesota on June 11, 1925 and was the youngest of three children born to Harry and Hattie Kienitz. Betty graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in 1945. She was married to the late James Swanson for 31 years.
Betty owned the Lumenata Lamppe Shoppe for many years and was very involved in the Business and Professional Women's (BPW) Club. She served as President of the Englewood BPW club four separate times, as well as a term as District Director. In her retirement years, Betty volunteered at the Englewood/ Cape Haze Chamber of Commerce. In 2001, she was the Englewood Elks "Citizen of the Year." Betty was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Englewood.
Betty is survived by her children, Judy (Mike) Ross, Karen Keith and Steve (Lila) Swanson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 701 N. Indiana Ave, Englewood, Florida, Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 1 p.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church or Englewood Meals on Wheels.
