

Beverly (Douglas) Hencher, 62, a resident of Punta Gorda for 57 years, died January 2, 2011 at her home. She was born June 13, 1948 in Taylorville, IL. In August of 1972, Beverly graduated with her Bachelors degree, was married at St. Charles Borromeo Parish and began her teaching ministry at the St. Charles Borromeo School. She obtained her Masters degree in Theology from Barry University. Mrs. Hencher was Assistant Principal and Middle School Teacher at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School.
She lived and modeled Catholic Social Teaching. The activities she directed included; The Holy Childhood Association, Kids for Others, Adult Faith Formation, Pathways, Sacramental Preparation, Hats for Hope, St. Vincent DePaul Kids Club and food drives. More recently she orchestrated the float for the Christmas Parade in Punta Gorda, taking first place. During her 39 year tenure there were many other extracurricular activities too numerous to list. Beverly was a beloved teacher, co-worker and friend. She was considered the heart beat of the school.
Beverly was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Chris Hencher, her son and daughter in law Christopher & Mary Hencher, her mother, Mary Douglas and her sister Rebecca Douglas.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, to commemorate her life and dedicated service to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, the Beverly D. Hencher Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established in the Catholic Community Foundation, Diocese of Venice. This Scholarship Fund will annually enable children of limited means to attend St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. Contributions to the Fund can be made payable to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School and sent to: The Beverly D.
