Bradley James Murray, age 49, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 after a brief illness. Born May 11, 1964 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to James and Joyce Murray, he moved with his family to Punta Gorda in 1975. Brad attended Charlotte High School, where he was a member of the varsity football team. With a family history of law enforcement service behind him and inspired by his father, retired Reserve Major and former senior advisor to the CCSO Explorer Post 29, Brad determined very early on to make law enforcement his life's carer. At the age of 19, Brad joined the CCSO Reserve Unit, completed his law enforcement certification, and was hired by CCSO in 1984. He served Charlotte County for nearly 30 years in the capacities of road patrol, SWAT, K-9, Major Crimes, and most recently as a US Marshall assigned as a member of the Fugitive Task Force.
Brad is survived by his wife of 26 years Keochay, sons James, Jonathon, Justin and Jarrod, parents James and Joyce Murray, grandmother Mary Thorp, grandson Jordan, all of Punta Gorda, his sister Lisa (Ralph) Turner, nephews Joshua (Jennifer) and Benjamin, and niece Kacie all of Winter Park, Florida. In addition to aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as his extended CCSO and law enforcement family here in Southwest Florida.
