

Charles P. Guenther, age 89, a 31-year resident of Placida, Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 29, 2017. Charlie was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 24, 1928 the only child of German immigrants, Paul and Elsa Guenther. He graduated Salutatorian from Central High School and entered Yale University on a merit scholarship. Four years later as a proud member of the class of 1948 he graduated with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and in Finance.
In November of 1950 he entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean conflict. On June 30th 1951 he married his college sweetheart, Janet Lorraine Schmidt of Great Neck Long Island, New York. A marriage that lasted for 66 years until the time of his death and produced four children, Stephen (Diane), Susan Briese (Steven), Laura Stout (Randy), Bruce and seven perfect grandchildren.
Following discharge, Charlie joined the Methods Department of Oldsmobile, a division of General Motors in Lansing, Michigan. He remained at Oldsmobile for 35 years serving in numerous managerial positions. Upon retirement, Charlie and Jan found the perfect life spending their summers in northern Michigan and wintering in Placida, Florida where they fished, golfed and Charlie played Bridge. With his health failing, they became full time Floridians five years ago where Charlie continued his activities for as long as possible.
Our Poppa, Dad and Poppy will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held at St. David's Episcopal church, West Lansing Michigan at 11A.M. August 19th. Internment will take place at a later date in Indian River, Michigan.
