

Charles “Chuck” Habelow, M.D. of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on April 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on January 8, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, but growing up in Houston, chuck lived a life marked by service, determination, and a deep love for family and adventure.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as an Amtrac Mechanic (MOS-2142). While still in the service, he began attending Jacksonville University, where he earned his B.S. degree in Biology, Chemistry and Medical Technology. He graduated in 1971 and began his career as a laboratory technologist. Although he found satisfaction in that work, the call to medicine proved too strong. After meeting and marrying Barbara Haynes, the love of his life in 1973, he applied to medical school and graduated in 1983 at the age of 36 with an M.D. Practicing Internal Medicine, he dedicated the rest of his professional life to caring for patients in Arcadia, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and Key Largo. Known for his compassion and commitment, he touched countless lives through his medical practice.
Chuck was also an avid adventurer who loved SCUBA diving, fishing, and sailing. He spent many happy hours exploring the waters of the Florida Keys and the Bahamas, finding peace and joy on the sea with his wife always by his side for 52 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Habelow; his daughter Laura, and son-in-law, Nick; his sister Sherry, and brother-in-law, Bill Ballou. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Haynes Jr.; sisters-in-law Bonnie Haynes, Dottie Munsch, Paula Haynes; and predeceased by brother-in-law Jimmie Haynes, all of South Carolina. He is also survived by multiple loving nieces and nephews.
Chuck will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, dedicated physician, and a man who lived life with courage, kindness, and quiet adventure who touched the lives of all who knew him.
