Obit for: Donald J. Gaynor
Donald James Gaynor, 67, of Englewood, Florida, died April 4, 2009. He was born October 4, 1941 in Brockton, Massachusetts to John M. and Kathryn House Gaynor.
He was formerly of Marshfield, Massachusetts and a graduate of Weymouth High School Class of 1960.
He owned and operated Mechanical Service Company in Marshfield before retiring and moving to Englewood.
Don and his wife, Wendy, were both pilots and aviation enthusiasts. They shared a passion for flying and all things aviation, making friends everywhere in the U.S., Canada, and the Carribean. He received his pilot certificate in 1970 and has owned several single engine planes since that time. A big part of his life was spent restoring and showing his 1959 K Model Beech Bonanza. The airplane was a National Grand Champion at Oshkosh Airventure and at Sun 'n Fun. Don was very active in EAA Chapter 1285 in Venice, Florida, and has flown many "Young Eagles." The Gaynors have volunteered at the Sun 'n Fun Convention in Lakeland, FL, as Parts Exchange Co-Chairs for the past eighteen years.
He was a member of the Experimental Aviation Association, Vintage Aircraft Association, American Bonanza Society, National Air Racing Group, and Quiet Birdmen. He was also a member of the American Coach Association, Southeast Chapter American Coach Association, and "Mac Pack."
Survived by his wife Wendy Myers Gaynor of Englewood; his mother, Kathryn D. Gaynor of Englewood; his son, John R. Lisa Gaynor of Cave Creek, Arizona; his daughter, Kim Randy Sylvester of Pembroke, Massachusetts; his brother in law, Ron Myers of Anguilla, British West Indies; grandchildren, Adam Slys, Provan Slys, Johnny Gaynor, James Gaynor, Jared Gaynor and Janelle Gaynor.
A memorial service in Englewood will be held at a later date.
