Dorothy Evelyn Rokes Garland passed away March 13, 2012. She was born December 24, 1919 to Erving and Nellie Rokes of North Andover, Massachusetts. She received her BS degree in Education from Boston University, continued her education at Northeasten and New Hampshire University. She taught in Amesbury MA, Newington and Rye NH Jr. High Schools for 25yrs before moving to Englewood FL in 1972. In order to enjoy both of her favorite pastimes - teaching and boating - she chose substitute teaching and taught for 17years at Lemon Bay Jr./High School.
"Dottie" was also very active in the Englewood Moose Lodge 1933. She achieved the Star Recorder and College of Regents degrees in Chapter 1582. In 1979 she was named 'Sweetheart of Lodge 1933' and was later known as 'Mrs. Moose'. She was also known for the past 19 yrs as 'Mrs. Clause' at the annual Children's Christmas parties.
Survived by her four children, Robert E. Garland, Patricia L. Grant, George A. Garland all of NH, Victoria L. Garland of Englewood and her 4 legged faithful companion Sophie Mae. She also survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Englewood Moose Lodge 1933 on April 22nd at 2 p.m.
