God chose Dorothy Louise Hansford Watts, 85, of Port Charlotte, FL, to enter the kingdom of Heaven on Oct. 25, 2021. She fought a long hard battle with cancer, but despite the pain, Dorothy was a warrior. We weren’t ready to lose her, but for sure, she’s in a much better place.
Dorothy was born to Allen and Amanda Hansford on Sept. 26, 1936, in Passaic, NJ. After her mom’s death (she was 4), her dad married Neva Ruth. “Mama didn’t birth me,” Dorothy said, “but she couldn’t have loved me any less.” Raised in a Christian home, she experienced a deep knowing of who God is and His amazing love for us.
We knew her as ‘Tootsie.’ After graduating from Passaic High School, she worked in retail sales at Macy’s on 34th Street, NY. She later attended secretarial school and for many years worked at Shulton Inc., Clifton, NJ.
She met and married the love of her life, Willie Watts. They bought her dream home in Montclair, NJ, where she loved decorating every room.
Dorothy was a long-time member of Union Baptist Church of Passaic, NJ. She proudly served as a deaconess and her husband as a deacon.
She was preceded in death by both parents and is survived by her husband, Willie, her daughter, her son William Watts and his wife, Mirabel. Her siblings: Raymond Hansford, Shirley Christmas, and Melvia Zeigler and brother-in-law, Elbert. Her dearly loved grandchildren, Billy and Zinayah. And Cierra Jones, who melted her heart and lit up her life with joy and laughter.
Though we will mourn her loss daily, our comfort lies in the truth… Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” Revelation 14:13
